FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often do I need to replace the resin in the Car Washing Softener / Deionizer?
The replacement interval depends on how hard the water is where you are using it, how much TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) is in the water and how much water you use per use. We suggest you purchase a "Hard Water Test Kit" with your WaterStick so you can test the water hardness to determine when you will need to replace the resin.
How do I replace the resin in the Car Washing Softener / Deionizer?
1. Holding the DEIONIZER with a pair of channel lock pliers or a vice,
unscrew the large threaded bushing with the female hose fitting on the
inlet end using another pair of channel lock pliers or a wrench.
2. While holding the Softener / Deionizer over a trash can, shake out
the old resin.
3. Using a large mouth funnel, pour one bag of the GOLD resin into the
DEIONIZER from the end you removed the large bushing. The GOLD resin deionizes
the water and must be at the exit end (trigger sprayer end) of the DEIONIZER.
4. Now pour one bag of the BROWN resin into the DEIONIZER. The BROWN resin
softens the water and must be softened before it is deionized by the GOLD
resin.
5. Re install the threaded bushing using Teflon tape. Your DEIONIZER is
now ready for use.
Always store your DEIONIZER with the PVC plug installed to prevent the
resin inside from drying out which will shorten it's life.
Can I use the Car Washing Softener /Deionizer with a pressure washer?
Yes, as long as it does not require more than 3 GPM inlet water flow. We recommend that you only use the deionized water for the final rinse so you don't waste the deionized water.
If I use soft water going into the Car Washing Softener / Deionizer will the resin last longer?
It doesn't really help much because the Softener / Deionizer already has softening resin inside to first soften the water and then a second stage of resin to deionize the water.
Can I rinse outside windows with the Car Washing Softener / Deionizer and avoid squeeging or towel drying to prevent spotting?
Yes, but first you must wash the windows with soap & water using a brush, sponge or rag and then rinse them followed by a final rinse using deionized water. Yes, the Softener / Deionizer is capable of reaching second story windows with adequate water pressure.
Can I remove the trigger sprayer and insert a section of garden hose?
Yes, but all the deionized water remaining in that hose will be wasted when you finish your rinsing. The reason most ask that question is that they are thinking it will be tiring to hold the Softener / Deionizer while rinsing. We have found that because you only rinse sections of a car, motor home, boat, etc. at a time for only a few seconds, there is really no fatique so we did away with the hose 2 years ago.
